In 1988, PRIMAVERA’s purchasing manager Gerhard Benz helped co-found the Peruvian organic cultivation project Ieplam, today known as Aroma Inca. Since its inception, the project has expanded from an initial group of fifty members to 250 member farms that cultivate and distill organic aromatic plants for PRIMAVERA, in addition to their own food crops.
Already during ancient Inca rule, the area was a highly developed site for cultivation thanks to the fertile soil and mild climate. On the shores of the Vilcanota River in the “Holy Valley of the Incas,” aromatic lemon verbena and myrtle are cultivated by hand for PRIMAVERA.
PRIMAVERA owns a distillation unit in Pisac, not far from the former Peruvian capital Cusco. At the site, we produce premium essential oils distinguished for capturing the clear Andean air and wonderfully fresh scents.
